Summer market to end, but indoor version to return
Just as berries turn to apples and petunias to mums, so does the Worthington farmers market change but not end.
This coming Saturday will be the final summer market of the season, but the indoor winter market begins again on Nov. 30.
And this year, the second for the indoor version, the market will be held each Saturday, instead of every other Saturday, beginning in January.
The outdoor farmers market is held each Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Produce, flowers, baked goods, and other seasonal items are sold along High Street, south of Granville Road.
An added highlight this summer has been cooking demonstrations.
The winter market will again be held at the Griswold Center, with the city cooperating with the Olde Worthington Business Association, which sponsors the farmers markets.
Friends of the Worthington Farmers Market, an offshoot of Sustainable Worthington, supports the market. This winter, it will assist vendors setting up and tearing down.
According to David Mortman of the Friends, there are again more than enough vendors to fill the community room at the Griswold Center.
The first indoor market of the season will be held Nov. 30, coinciding with the annual holiday open house and tree lighting ceremony in downtown Worthington.
A pre-Christmas market will be held Dec. 13.
From January through April, the market will be held each Saturday.
Hours this year will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., which is one hour shorter than last year. The decision to cut the final hour was made because most of the produce and other items were sold after three hours, Mortman said.
