During "Ready to Read: Crafts on the Go," children age 5 and younger and their caregivers will complete easy, interactive crafts that will help the children prepare to read. Projects are based on the six early literacy skills. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Northwest Library.

Children in kindergarten through third grade will explore the secrets of science using stories, songs and activities. "Science Secrets" will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays at Northwest Library. The topics will be optical illusions (Jan. 30), balloonamania (Feb. 27), powerful forces (March 27) and wondrous water (April 24).

Get creative during "The Write Stuff," for ages 12-18. The series starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, with a fan fiction class. A memoir workshop will meet Feb. 20, and a poetry class will close out the series on March 13. Registration is required.

"The Other" by David Guterson will be the topic of the "Speaking Volumes" book discussion group at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Old Worthington Library. "The Other" is a coming-of-age tale about friendship, ethics, alienation and the road to maturity.
