Kitten season has arrived, and that means it's a very busy time for the CHA Animal Shelter on Corporate Drive, according to development director Terri Montigny.

"Each year, the cat mating season from March through November results in a population explosion," she wrote in an e-mail. "Unaltered cats will produce tens of thousands of kittens in just one year, and those new souls are already pouring into the CHA Animal Shelter in northeast Columbus."

To ensure they start their lives healthy and happy and that CHA Animal Shelter personnel have enough supplies to serve them, the nonprofit organization will host the third annual "Kitten Shower" from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 5.

Refreshments, games, raffle drawings and visits with the newest arrivals are on tap for the afternoon, which is "sure to tug at your heartstrings," Montigny wrote.

"As with any baby shower, gifts are gladly accepted," she added.

A "wish list" can be found at CHAAnimalShelter.org.

All of the organization's giving opportunities are available online.

Supply drop-off locations are available through June 5. Supplies from the wish list can be dropped off or purchased at PetPeople stores in Dublin, Gahanna, Westerville, Grandview, Upper Arlington and Pickerington; the CHA Animal Shelter, 3765 Corporate Drive; German Village Veterinary Hospital; Pet Supplies Plus in Upper Arlington; Mutts and Co. in Dublin; Moochie and Co. in Easton; and Pet Palace near the Port Columbus International Airport.

During the Kitten Shower, CHA will be running "Twice the Love," in which people can adopt two cats or kittens for the adoption fee of one.
