Caitlin Sheban of Worthington is one of the recipients of the Northern Kiwanis Meryl H. Dennis Scholarship.

She received the $1,000 scholarship May 19 during a joint meeting with North Columbus Civitan.

Sheban is a senior at Thomas Worthington High School, where she maintains a 4.25 grade-point average and serves as student body president. She is a four-year starter on the varsity lacrosse team, and has been captain for the past two years.

Sheban also played varsity soccer and is a member of the Student Athletic Leadership Board. She also volunteers as a lacrosse coach and as a math tutor.

Sheban will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder and will major in civil engineering.

Bank scholarships

Worthington residents Amanda Massinople, Darby McMullen and Anna van der Zwaag are among the recipients of the 2011 Farmers Citizens Bank scholarship awards.

Scholarships were awarded based on grade-point average, school activities, community activities, essays and recommendations.

Massinople is a senior at Bishop Watterson High School. Her interests include writing, reading and running. Massinople is a member of the BWHS track team and a founding member of the school's Environmental Club. She plans to attend Ohio State University and has not yet decided on a major.

McMullen, a senior at Worthington Kilbourne High School, is the daughter of Patrick and Robin McMullen. She participates in volleyball, basketball and track, and is involved with Student Council and National Honor Society. McMullen plans to attend Washington and Jefferson College, where she will study elementary education. She will also play on the women's varsity volleyball team at W and J.

Van der Zwaag is a senior at Thomas Worthington High School and the daughter of Gerke and Lavonne van der Zwaag. She is a member of the TWHS Latin Club, and participates in many activities at Columbus Mennonite Church. Van der Zwaag will attend Goshen College, where she plans to major in molecular biology, with a focus on pre-med.
