National Night Out will be celebrated in Worthington with a gathering at Selby Park from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7.

"National Night Out promotes partnerships between communities and the police, as well as crime prevention and safety," Worthington police officer Tammy Floyd said.

Everyone is invited to the event, which will include several informational booths and mascots and activities for children.

The Franklin County sheriff's office will bring tactical vehicles for inspection.

Target will set up a booth with giveaways, and Chick-fil-A will bring its mascot and give away coupons.

The Colonial Hills Blockwatch will be on hand to encourage neighbors to join and to watch out for each other.

Ohio State University will present information on injury prevention.

The Worthington police and fire departments will be there to talk to residents.

This will be the 29th annual National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Last year, 15,000 communities participated with events like the one planned for Worthington.
