Worthington's tree lighting

Santa's visit to be highlight of Sunday event

The little town of Worthington will be decked out and ready to launch the holiday season Sunday, Nov. 25.

The annual Holiday Open House and tree-lighting ceremony will begin with the opening of downtown shops at noon and end with the official illumination of the community Christmas tree at 5:30 p.m.

Stores and restaurants will be decorated and will offer snacks and specials throughout the afternoon.

Santa will greet children from his sleigh at the Worthington Inn, and strolling musicians will entertain.

Carriage rides will be offered from 2 to 5 p.m.

Activities on the Village Green will begin at 4 p.m. with arts and crafts for children and an ice-carving demonstration.

At 5:30 p.m., a carriage will deliver Santa to the Green to join in the caroling and the illumination of hundreds of lights on the tree, which is on the southeast quadrant of the Green.

Hot chocolate will be available and goodie bags will be given to the first 500 children in attendance.

During the day, canned goods and cash donations will be collected to benefit the Worthington Food Pantry and Resource Center. Collection points will be on the porch of the Worthington Inn and along New England Avenue at the carriage stop.
