Now is the time to register and to start practicing for the annual spelling bee, sponsored by Leadership Worthington and the Worthington Educational Foundation.
This year's bee will be March 19 at Worthington Kilbourne High School.
Each year, teams of three adults work together to win prizes and bragging rights. About 20 teams usually enter the adult bee, which is held on stage at the high school.
A youth spelling bee precedes the adult version. The students spell at 5 p.m., followed by the adults at 7 p.m.
"Each year, we marvel at the number of youth and adults who enjoy connecting with a fun spelling bee in our community," said Joan Bird, Leadership Worthington director. "This annual event brings the speller out in everyone, at any age."
Proceeds from the bees support leadership development programs and student scholarships.
Judges for this year's youth team bee will be Worthington librarians Ann Pechacek, Sarah Cofer and Heather Webb. Master of ceremonies will be Shirley Hamilton, director of pupil services for Worthington City Schools.
Students from Worthington district elementary and middle schools are eligible and are coordinated at their schools.
Adult teams are coordinated through Leadership Worthington.
Judges for the adult bee are Marc Schare, Worthington Board of Education member; James Mosic, Worthington chief of police; and Kathryn Paugh, director of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce. The 7 p.m. emcee will be Amy Donovan, a local radio personality.
This will be the 20th annual adult bee, which was started as a class project by Leadership Worthington students.
This year's team sponsors include Tony Lordo, D.D.S.; Andy Tilton, Tilton Automotive; Sign-A-Rama Worthington, Clark, Schaeffer and Hackett Co.; Worthington-Linworth Kiwanis Club; Worthington Noon Lions Club; LW board of trustees; and Worthington Jewelers.
Community business sponsors and individuals still are encouraged to sponsor a three-person team. The deadline is March 4.
The event is open to the public.
