Gibson elected to global post
Chuck Gibson, director of Worthington Libraries since 2010, was elected to serve as an Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) Global Council delegate from the Americas Region at a recent meeting of the Global Council held in The Hague, Netherlands.
Gibson will serve with public and academic librarians from the United States, Canada, Barbados, Chile, Trinidad and Tobago. Gibson's three-year term begins July 1.
Central Ohio also will be represented by Carol Pitts Diedrichs, director of University Libraries and professor at the Ohio State University.
Founded in 1967, OCLC is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing library costs. More than 74,000 libraries in 170 countries have used OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend, preserve and manage library materials.
Global Council comprises member delegates elected by the members within each of the three Regional Councils and serves as a key strategic discussion forum and the major communication link between member libraries, Regional Councils and OCLC.
