Police intervened after a Loveman Avenue resident stole the neighbor's tiki torches last week.

A resident of the 400 block of Loveman called police July 25, alleging that a neighbor had taken the lights following a dispute. The theft occurred between July 23 and 25.

Contacted by police, the neighbor admitted taking the torches but said it was because of a belief that the torches were a fire hazard.

The torches were returned to their owner, and no charges were filed.

* More businesses were targeted by thieves looking to cash in on the value of scrap metal.

Between July 17 and 24, someone stole 1.5 tons of stainless steel from a business in the 6900 block of Worthington-Galena Road.

Between July 8 and 22, someone stole an air-conditioning unit and a stormwater grate from a business in the 6500 block of Huntley Road. The loss was estimated at $1,100.

* On July 12 or 13, pieces of equipment were stolen from a vehicle in the 400 block of East Wilson Bridge Road.

* A lawn mower was stolen from in front of a garage in the 300 block of Whitney Avenue on July 23 or 24.

* A bicycle was stolen from the Old Worthington Library, 820 High St.

* Police were called by the owner of a restaurant in the 400 block of East Wilson Bridge Road. An employee allegedly stole from customers between June 13 and July 18.
