Thief crashes while fleeing

A man who was observed stealing items from an outdoor business in the 500 block of East Granville Road at 4:32 a.m. Oct. 9 wrecked his vehicle as he fled the scene.

The wreck occurred nearby, at the corner of East Granville and Proprietors Road.

The suspect fled on foot from the accident but later was located, arrested and taken to the Franklin County jail.

In other Worthington Division of Police incident reports:

* Thieves hit the parking lot of a hotel in the 7000 block of North High Street during the early morning hours of Oct. 9, stealing items from three vehicles parked near the southwest corner of the lot.

* A resident of the 200 block of Pingree Court reported two rings missing from the residence. He said he believes they were taken by exterminators who were in the house between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 3.

* Someone cashed two counterfeit checks at a credit union in the first block of West Wilson Bridge Road between July 18 and 23. Loss was estimated at $2,720.

* A cellphone was reported stolen from a student at Thomas Worthington High School during the school day Oct. 7.
