The community is invited to bid farewell to Worthington City Council President Louis J.R. Goorey during a reception prior to his final meeting Dec.16.
A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a special recognition ceremony to open the regular 7:30 p.m. meeting at the Worthington Municipal Building, 6550 N. High St.
Goorey is retiring after 40 years on council. He has been president since 1995.
Goorey, a retired pediatrician, has been a leader in many community groups, including the Worthington Jaycees, the Worthington Sertoma and the Rotary Club of Dublin-Worthington.
He was co-chairman of the Worthington bicentennial celebration and was a leader in the efforts to bring the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center to Worthington.
His dedication and care for children can be seen widely throughout central Ohio, where he was involved in the medical community and at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
