Drake steps up in role as Liberty Elementary principal

Susan Drake, who has been with the Worthington City Schools as a teacher and instructional coach since 1999, will take over as principal at Liberty Elementary School in August.

"I am thrilled," she told the Worthington Board of Education, which hired her April 14.

She will succeed Holly Coombs, who is retiring.

Drake has been an instructional coach in Worthington since 2008. In that position, she leads other teachers and administrators as they improve their teaching and other classroom skills.

For the past year, she was a consultant and master coach for the Center for Results in Alexandria, Va.

She also has taught English language classes to students whose first language is not English and for one year was a fourth-grade teacher at Evening Street Elementary School.

She also has taught in Louisiana and in Japan.

Drake, 43, has a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Valpariso University in Indiana, a Doctor of Education degree from Boston University, a teacher-leader endorsement and a Master of Education degree in educational leadership from Ohio Dominican University.

Drake's salary will be $89,200, and she'll receive a benefits package.
