June 4 fundraiser supports bile-duct cancer research

A June 4 fundraiser and book-signing event will be held in memory of Joan Andrews Hays from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the Hills Market in Worthington, 7860 Olentangy River Road.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Ohio State University Foundation Joan Andrews Hays Bile Duct Cancer Research Fund.

The fundraiser will feature grilled sandwiches, pizza and beverages from Hills, with a portion of sales benefiting the cancer-research fund; music by the Capriccio Choir, of which Andrews Hays had been a member; a silent auction highlighted by an opportunity to bid on lodging at Tenuta San Carlo in Tuscany, Italy; and a book signing by Andrews Hays’ mother, Marie Andrews, of Muirfield Village.

Andrews is a former editorial assistant for Good Housekeeping magazine and is the author of Nothing Lasts Forever.” All proceeds from the book signing will benefit the research fund.

Andrews Hays died of bile-duct cancer in March 2013 after an 11-month battle. A mother of three, she also played competitive tennis, with many of her awards posted at the Worthington Hills Country Club. In addition, she enjoyed cooking, playing the piano and singing.
