Military Moms accepting donations

The Buckeye Military Moms, a local chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America Inc., have announced a donation drive and community packing event for deployed U.S. military troops.

The Buckeye Military Moms, whose members have or have had their sons/daughters serve honorably, are sponsoring a drive to send at least 400 packages to troops actively serving abroad. The packages will be delivered to troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, on Navy ships and other conflict areas.

The effort aims to show the thousands of deployed troops that they haven't been forgotten, and that people at home are coming together to show their support and gratitude.

To reach this goal, Buckeye Military Moms are requesting donations. The group also will accept unopened items to be included in the care packages, such as dried fruit, nuts, beef jerky, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, microfiber cloths and other items.

Buckeye Miltary Moms also will accept financial support to get the packages to their destinations. Each box costs up to $14.85 (postal flat rate) to ship, and it costs an average of $25-$30 for items inside each box.

Donated items can be dropped off at the Worthington Fire Department, 6500 N. High St, Worthington 43085.

Direct pickups can be arranged by emailing the Blue Star Mothers at bluestarmothers9@gmail.com or by calling 614-827-5362.
