The woman who was struck and killed by a train at the Park Road railroad crossing has been identified as Victoria Nyambura Muchiri, 22, an Ohio State University student from Logan County. The incident occurred at 1:35 a.m. Aug. 7.

According to the train conductor, Muchiri stood in the middle of the tracks and did not make any attempt to move as the southbound Norfolk-Southern train approached.

He was unable to stop the train in time, and the woman was struck, killing her instantly.

Muchiri's car was found in an adjacent parking lot.

Sheriff Zach Scott said the incident is being investigated as a suicide.

The crossing is in Sharon Township and in the Worthington school district. It is just south of Lazelle Road and southeast of Flint Road.

News of Muchiri's death has reached media in Africa, as Muchiri apparently was a Kenyan native.
