Food fight winners to be food pantries

The third annual Battle of Hard Road Food Fight will be held at Worthington Kilbourne's home football game against Dublin Scioto High School on Friday, Aug. 29.

The event pits Dublin Scioto and the Dublin Lions Club against Worthington Kilbourne and the Worthington Noon Lions. Each side will collect food and cash to be donated to its local food pantry.

Last year, Worthington was declared the winner.

Both schools will accept both food and cash donations during school hours. On game night, each side will collect donations at tables by the Kilbourne football stadium ticket booths. The contest will end at halftime of the game, and representatives from both Lions clubs will start counting. The winners will be declared between the third and fourth quarters of the game with an on-field presentation.

Participants will include both Lions Clubs, student organizations and food pantry representatives. The winning school will receive a ceramic food bowl as a trophy.

The Healthy Worthington Resource Center and Food Pantry and the Dublin Food Pantry suggest donations of peanut butter; canned chicken, tuna and beans; personal toiletry items; breakfast cereal; applesauce; boxed pasta dishes; and ready-to-eat soup.
