Capriccio Columbus will present Duke Ellington's Sacred Songs in two concerts at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, at the Beechwold Christian Church, 280 Morse Road, Columbus. This rarely performed work by Ellington will be accompanied by a 17-piece jazz orchestra.

Written during the last nine years of his life, Sacred Songs is a patchwork taken from several stages of Ellington's career. The work pulls from his show-business roots, African-American culture and deep religious faith.

Soprano Keyona Willis will be the soloist for the Ellington piece. She is a professor of music at Ohio State University and an adjunct professor at Otterbein University. Also on the program are a collection of spirituals and several selections written and arranged by African-American composers.

Tickets are $12 general admission and for seniors; children 18 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased at CapriccioColumbus.org or at the door.

This concert is supported by a Greater Columbus Arts Council grant.
