Thomas Worthington High School senior Kristi Gegas will commit to play field hockey at Ohio University in a ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on March 2 at the high school.
Gegas, a midfielder, is a four-year letterwinner who helped the Cardinals enjoy a lot of success. Thomas reached the state championship game last season before losing to Cincinnati St. Ursula Academy 1-0 to finish 17-2-2. Despite missing part of the season with a fractured finger, Gegas still played well enough last year to be named first-team All-COFHL. She helped the Cardinals advance to the state title game by scoring two of the team's three goals in its 3-2 state semifinal win over Columbus Academy.
Gegas also was an instrumental player on the state-championship winning team in 2007. She helped Thomas to district titles in three of her four years with the program.
Ohio University is a Division I program that competes in the Mid American Conference. The Bobcats were 12-10 overall and 7-3 in the conference last season.
