LANCASTER -- The season ended July 26 for the Worthington American Legion Post 239 baseball team, as it lost 15-3 to Utica Post 92 in a losers' bracket contest of the double-elimination state tournament at Fisher Catholic High School.

LANCASTER -- The season ended July 26 for the Worthington American Legion Post 239 baseball team, as it lost 15-3 to Utica Post 92 in a losers' bracket contest of the double-elimination state tournament at Fisher Catholic High School.

Worthington finished 2-2 in the tournament and 27-11 overall.

Post 239 won its first contest July 26, as Blake Adkins scattered six hits in a 10-2 win over Beverly/Lowell Posts 389/750 at OU-Lancaster's Beavers Field.

Worthington scored all the runs it needed against Beverly in the bottom of the first. Sam Adams' RBI double highlighted the three-run inning.

Adams also singled, hit a solo home run and walked and had three RBI. Will Meador doubled and singled, David Lykens drove in two runs and Dan Eurich hit a solo home run.

Beverly/Lowell trailed 9-0 before scoring both of its runs in the eighth inning on a walk, double and single off Adkins, who was dominant despite pitching 140-plus pitches in the rising heat.

Beverly/Lowell, which finished 22-15, aided Worthington's cause with five errors. Post 239 totaled 14 hits, but also stranded 12 runners.
