The Worthington Kilbourne High School girls lacrosse team cruised to a 16-4 win over Cincinnati Mother of Mercy in the second round of the Division II South/Central Region tournament on May 17 to improve to 13-2-1.

Miriam Bassani and Carly Cameron both had four goals, Kara Hines scored three and Savannah Coen scored two to lead the Wolves.

Kilbourne played Cincinnati Summit Day in a regional semifinal on May 22, with the winner playing at Cincinnati Mariemont or Columbus Academy in the regional final on Thursday, May 24.

The regional champion advances to a state semifinal June 1.

The Wolves tied Mariemont at 8 on April 21 and defeated Academy 9-7 on May 8.

Thomas girls roll in tourney opener

The Thomas Worthington girls team defeated Dublin Scioto 14-4 in the second round of the Division I South/Central Region tournament May 17.

Sam Kuehnl, Kieran Ford, Liza Carey, Hannah Heinke-Green and Tonycia Melfe each scored two goals.

The Cardinals were 11-6 before playing Dublin Coffman in a regional semifinal May 21. The winner plays at Upper Arlington or Hilliard Bradley in the regional final on Thursday, May 24, with the regional champion advancing to a state semifinal on June 1.

Thomas defeated Bradley 18-8 on April 17 but lost to UA 14-7 on May 10.

Kilbourne, Thomas boys advance to second round

The Kilbourne and Thomas boys teams met in the second round of the Division I Central Region tournament May 23, with the winner advancing to the regional final at top-seeded UA or fourth-seeded Coffman on Saturday, May 26.

Third-seeded Thomas defeated Pickerington Central 14-7 in the first round on May 19 to improve to 14-5, as Eric Monfort and Peter Vaccarella each scored four goals.

Second-seeded Kilbourne beat Gahanna 21-7 in the first round May 19 to improve to 15-3. James Meager led the Wolves with six goals.

The regional champion plays Centerville, Cincinnati Moeller, Cincinnati St. Xavier or Mason in a state semifinal on Wednesday, May 30, at the home field of the highest-ranked team.

Kilbourne lost to UA 10-8 on May 2 and 10-9 in the Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association tournament May 11 but defeated Moeller twice, winning 8-7 on April 4 and 10-7 in MSCLA tournament on May 12.

Thomas lost to UA 6-3 on May 8 and lost Moeller 9-8 on March 23, but it defeated St. Xavier 7-5 on April 27.
