The Worthington Christian High School girls basketball team earned the second seed for the Division IV district tournament at the drawing Feb. 3.
At 1 p.m. Feb. 16, the host Warriors will play Wellington in a first-round game. The winner meets Millersport on Feb. 19, with the winner advancing to a third-round game Feb. 21 against fifth-seeded Morral Ridgedale or Grove City Christian.
Other high seeds in Worthington Christian's portion of the bracket include Shekinah Christian (3), Granville Christian (6) and Tree of Life (8).
Newark Catholic earned the top seed for the tournament and is in the other portion of the bracket with Gahanna Christian (4), Berne Union (7), Danville (9), Delaware Christian (10) and Fisher Catholic (11).
The Warriors were 15-5 before playing Wellington on Feb. 5 and close the regular season Saturday, Feb. 9, at Marion Pleasant.
In a 59-21 win over Columbus Academy on Jan. 31, senior post player Audrey Rettstatt led with 18 points.
Sophomore post player Natalee Cole added eight.
In a 38-35 win over Caledonia River Valley on Jan. 28, junior guard Ali Spayde led with 11 points.
Boys basketball team on 3-game win streak
The boys basketball team has won three in a row as it prepares for one of its toughest tasks of the season.
The Warriors travel Friday, Feb. 8, to Hartley, which was 11-4 before playing Watterson on Feb. 5. The Hawks upset Bloom-Carroll, which was fourth in last week's Division III state poll, 75-70 on Jan. 30.
Worthington Christian is a defending district champion and will learn its Division III district tournament schedule at the drawing Sunday, Feb. 10.
On Jan. 31, the Warriors rallied from a 26-22 halftime deficit to beat Northside Christian 60-41. Junior guard Sam Condon led with 18 points, senior guard Clayton Siders had eight points and senior guard Addison Taylor and freshman forward Brian Fields both scored seven.
In a 47-44 win over Columbus Academy on Jan. 29, Condon had 14 points and senior forward Nate Morris added nine.
Academy was second in last week's Division III area coaches poll behind Bloom-Carroll.
Bowling team wins first match
The boys bowling team snapped a 13-match losing streak to begin the season when it beat Hartley 1,748-1,597 on Jan. 28.
The Warriors followed with losses to Westerville South (2,409-1,845 on Jan. 30) and Jonathan Alder (2,226-2,086 on Jan. 31), but their score against Jonathan Alder was their second best of the season.
Worthington Christian, which is 1-15 overall and finished 0-14 in the Central Ohio High School Bowling Conference-North Division, will compete Feb. 16 in a sectional tournament at Eastland Lanes. The top nine teams and top nine individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the district tournament Feb. 22 at HP Lanes.
