By ThisWeek Community News  •

The doubles teams for the Worthington Kilbourne High School boys tennis team qualified for the Division I district tournament.

Senior Jack Klein and freshman Rohan Gupta beat their teammates, sophomores Steven Borchers and George Liu, 6-2, 6-0 in the third-place match in the sectional held May 16 and 18 at Pickerington Central.

The top four finishers in singles and doubles at each sectional advanced to district Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25, at Hilliard Davidson. The top four finishers at district will advance to the state tournament May 31 and June 1 at Ohio State.

"Jack and Rohan were seeded second in our sectional, so they expected to go to district and they played well and took care of business," coach Steve Metzmaier said. "For Steven and George, it was more of an accomplishment. Although they were seeded fourth, it was a little more unexpected. They didn't have much room for error and they did what they had to do to advance."

Klein and Gupta had a first-round bye and beat Logan's Andrew Gregory and Nathan Kudiapur 6-1, 6-0 in the second round and Grove City's Bryton Wise and Joey Braughton 6-1, 6-0 in a quarterfinal to secure a district berth. They then lost to second-seeded C.J. Cash and Jacob Teich of New Albany 7-5, 6-3 in a semifinal before beating their teammates.

In singles, freshman Dhruv Taneja beat Grove City's Brandon Davis 6-0, 7-5 and Teays Valley's Mason Roese 6-0, 6-4 in the first two rounds before falling to top-seeded Naki Giri of New Albany 6-0, 6-0 in a quarterfinal.

Also in singles, freshman Keaton Quinn lost to Grove City's Andrew Ray 6-4, 6-3 in the first round and freshman Eric Wang fell 6-2, 6-0 to New Albany's Harrison Lippy in the opening round.
