The Thomas Worthington High School football team lost to host Olentangy Liberty 41-10 in its season finale Nov. 1 to finish 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the OCC-Central Division.
The Cardinals, who lost four of their last five games, missed an opportunity to post their second non-losing season in the last 14 years. They finished 5-5 in 2009 and haven't had a winning season since 1999, when they went 7-3.
Liberty, which finished 5-5 and 4-3, jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but Thomas cut its deficit to 14-10 in the second quarter before the Patriots pulled away by scoring 27 unanswered points.
The Cardinals' scoring came on a 59-yard pass from quarterback Danny Gordon to wide receiver Jalen Wells and a 20-yard field goal by Ben Frazier.
Liberty tacked on a 30-yard field goal by Spencer Mosteller and a 34-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Kessler to wide receiver Skylar Taphorn to take a 24-10 lead into halftime and outscored the Cardinals 17-0 in the second half.
Patriots running back Daryian Davies played a key role in the outcome, rushing for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
Gordon finished with 171 yards passing.
