Cardinals rout Golden Bears in league match


The Thomas Worthington High School wrestling team improved to 2-4 in the OCC-Central Division by beating Upper Arlington 47-27 on Jan. 30.

The Cardinals will conclude the regular season with a league dual at Central Crossing on Thursday, Feb. 6, before competing in a Division I sectional Feb. 15 at UA.

The last big meet of the regular season was the Eaton Invitational on Jan. 25. Weather forced the cancellation of the semifinal and final rounds, but the Cardinals had 10 competitors left in the field, including six who were unbeaten.

Those were Tyler Norris (106 points), Martice Johnson (113), Noah Messerall (138), Ben Hooff (145), Nate Good (170) and James Ford (220).

Joining the Cardinals and the host Golden Bears in the 11-team sectional field will be Briggs, Columbus West, Grove City, Hilliard Bradley, Hilliard Davidson, New Albany, Olentangy Orange, Whetstone and Westerville North.

The top four in each weight class will advance to district Feb. 21 and 22 at Hilliard Darby

Last season, Messerall (145), Hooff (138) and Norris (106) qualified to district.

Wolves face Delaware in OCC-Capital finale

Kilbourne defeated Franklin Heights 49-12 on Jan. 30 to improve to 3-3 in the OCC-Capital.

The Wolves close the regular season Thursday, Feb. 6, at league-leading Delaware, which has secured a share of the title at 6-0.

Kilbourne will compete in the 11-team Division I sectional Feb. 15 at Marysville with the host Monarchs, Central Crossing, Darby, Dublin Jerome, Groveport, Hamilton Township, Northland, Olentangy, Olentangy Liberty and Westerville Central.

The top four in each weight class will advance to district.

Entering the regular-season finale, Lucky Shaut is 22-5 at 182, Austin Oberly is 26-8 at 106, Danny Darby is 20-11 at 152, Darius Turner is 18-13 at 170, David Turner is 18-15 at 160, Charlie Osborn is 18-13 at 113 and Michael Duzzny is 16-15 at 126.

Last season, Oberly (106), Shaut (126) and Darby (138) were district qualifiers.
