The Thomas Worthington High School boys tennis team played host to the eight-team Worthington Cup on April 19.
The Cardinals scored six points to tie Kilbourne for fifth, behind Upper Arlington (18), Reynoldsburg (14), Pickerington North (12) and Hilliard Davidson (8). Dublin Jerome and Granville both scored five points to tie for seventh.
UA won the singles and doubles championships in the annual event.
Seniors Sam Chen and Zach Graham were the Cardinals' top finishers, placing fourth in doubles. The duo rallied to beat Granville's Brian Ginise and Kosta Morris 11-9 in the pro-set format after trailing 6-0.
The Cardinals were 1-7 overall after losing to Jerome 5-0 on April 21 and were 1-3 in the OCC-Central Division before facing Marysville on April 22.
Thomas defeated Westland 4-1 in a league match April 15. In their other league matches, the Cardinals lost to UA (5-0 on April 8), Davidson (4-1 on April 1) and Dublin Coffman (5-0 on April 17).
Liu, Wang lead Wolves in Worthington Cup
Kilbourne was led in the Worthington Cup by junior George Liu and sophomore Eric Wang, who finished fifth in doubles.
The Wolves were 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the OCC-Capital before playing Franklin Heights on April 22. They will conclude their league schedule with home matches Thursday, April 24, against Olentangy Orange and Friday, April 25, against Olentangy.
The Wolves posted their league wins against Delaware (4-1 on April 8), Mount Vernon (5-0 on April 15) and Big Walnut (4-1 on April 17). They lost 5-0 to defending league champion New Albany on April 10.
Sophomore Rohan Gupta entered the week 4-1 at first singles.
Kilbourne was scheduled to play Pickerington Central on April 21, but the match was canceled because the Tigers had to make up a league match that had been postponed.
