- Best New Special Advertising Section 3rd Place-tie:
New Albany Calendar (January 2005)
This new special glossy feature was delivered in January 2005 to 7,109 within our ThisWeek New Albany newspaper, plus overruns delivered to New Albany government offices. It highlighted photographs from New Albany along with listings of school activities and important dates, along with Chamber of Commerce and community events. The calendar also included an easy reference phone list and Chamber contact information. The shelf life of this product will be the entire year. This was our first community calendar and we plan to expand next year into more communities.
- Best Cover Design 2nd Place:
Gahanna Summer Guide (May 20, 2004)
The cover of this 8-page tabloid special section features two little boys sitting on a rock in the Rocky Fork creek and was designed using an actual photograph. The cover truly depicts the "summer" feeling along the creek, which is the heart of this Gahanna community in their historical downtown. This section was distributed to the Gahanna market with a circulation of 16,752. This cover will have at least an entire summer shelf life.
- Best Parenting Publication (Niche Product) 3rd Place:
Columbus Parent (September 2004)
Columbus Parent is a full color, free monthly magazine product of ThisWeek Community Newspapers distributed by rack and stand at more than 700 locations (including Children's Hospital, COSI, etc.) and 55 local Kroger stores, 42 Blockbuster Video stores, Discount Drug Mart and Anderson's. This issue is 52 pages and focuses on TEENS plus includes our annual Central Ohio Pediatric Society special section.
Every issue includes an "Out and About" family calendar listing, family media reports (by the Columbus Metropolitan Library), reader photographs, children's health, family recipes, family entertainment and the arts, tips and resources, classifieds, and more. Monthly columns include "Straight Talk" (by Yvette McGee Brown, a former Domestic Relations/Juvenile Court Judge & the current president of the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Children's Hospital), "Feeding Hungry Minds and Bodies" (nutrition column), "Art Scene," "Family Getaways" (travel column), "In the News" (a convergence effort with our affiliated media as a briefing for busy parents), "Pediatric Health Source" by pediatric experts at Children's Hospital, "Daddy Dantzer" (comical viewpoints from a local DJ dad), plus feature articles.
It is a very successful, highly recognizable, family product in the central Ohio region due to the editorial content and wonderful features of the product, including many incentives for our readers (coupons and contests). Special sections throughout the year include the "Birthday Guide," "Residential Camp Guide," "Day Camp Guide," "Arts Guide," a "Special Needs" section, and a "Central Ohio Pediatric Society's Supplement."
This publication has it's own web site separate from ThisWeek's, www.columbusparent.com. Columbus Parent is also cross-promoted on our other affiliates with web links. On ONN & WBNS 10TV, our writers & editor have segments aired called "The Parenting Project" which promotes content in Columbus Parent.
Columbus Parent has even launched an e-newsletter called MomStyle, which is delivered to 7,300 registered readers. On April 2, 2005 we held our first Columbus Parent Expo, which was a huge success!
