The Whitehall-Bexley Rotary Club recently announced the recipients of its annual scholarship
awards.
Youth service and scholarship committee chair Randolph Balch presented awards of $1,000 to eight recipients. Scholarship winners were: • Jack Byrnes, St. Charles Preparatory School. He will attend Duke University. • Sarah Leighty, Columbus School for Girls. She will attend Ohio State University. • Keith White-Cox, Whitehall-Yearling High School. He will attend the University of Cincinnati. • Lindsay Cannon, Bishop Hartley High School. She will attend Ohio State University. • Thomas Joseph, Walnut Ridge High School. He will attend Ohio State University. • Teresa Cordell, a senior education major at Capital University. Also receiving scholarships were Megan Leite, Bexley High School; and Anna Ellis, Eastmoor Academy. The Drexel Theatre, 2254 E. Main St., will continue its annual Kids' Film Series this summer. Screenings feature live film introductions and prize giveaways, plus short films and cartoons at selected shows. Children can enjoy crafts beginning at noon on Saturdays, before the 1 p.m. screenings. Make movie-inspired crafts and artwork in the theater lobby at no charge. Bexley residents Evan Cook, son of Chuck and Allison Cook, and Emily Reed, daughter of Frank and Francis Reed, are among about 115 young dancers who will participate in the BalletMet Dance Academy Summer Intensives in Columbus. The participants qualified for the program through auditions, and will undergo several weeks of training designed for dance students with professional aspirations. Students take classes at least five days each week, studying ballet technique, Pointe and repertoire. They also receive instruction in disciplines such as modern dance and jazz, and have the opportunity to take enrichment courses in subjects such as nutrition, music and Pilates. At least one participant in the program will be chosen to be a BalletMet Company trainee for the 2009-2010 season.
