The following is a list of Metropolitan Park District of Columbus and Franklin County programs for this week.
Blacklick Woods Metro Park 6975 E. Livingston Ave., Reynoldsburg • Why Do Leaves Fall?, 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Take a half-mile walk and discover how plants get ready for winter. • Boo to the Flu, 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Beech Maple Lodge. Enjoy refreshments, a mammal display and receive a flku shot from LifeCare Alliance. The shot costs $25 unless recipients are age 65 or older with Medicare. Call (614) 278-3130. Blendon Woods Metro Park 4265 State Route 161 E., Westerville • Pumpkin Science, 1 p.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Bring a pumpkin and carving tools and study it scientifically, before finishing with a carving contest. • Spooky Stories, 7 p.m. Sunday at the Shadblow Reservable Area. Come in costume, bring a seat and hear some hair-raising tales. • Just for Kids: Turning Leaves, 2 p.m. Sunday at the Nature Center, for ages 6-12. Play games and learn how trees get ready for winter, then take a short walk to look at falling leaves. • Preschoolers: Squirrel Scramble, 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Nature Station. Learn about squirrels through songs, stories and a short hike. Highbanks Metro Park 9466 U.S. 23 N., Lewis Center • Metro Parks Nature Print Contest, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Nature Center. View the photography exhibit and vote for the People's Choice Award. • Commit to Be Fit Healthy Hike, 1 p.m. Sunday at the Northern Reservable Shelter. Take a leisurely two-mile walk with park rangers. Inniswood Metro Gardens 940 Hempstead Road, Westerville • Annual Halloween Party, 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the program area. Enjoy games and crafts in the gardens. Pickerington Ponds Metro Park 7680 Wright Road, Canal Winchester • Adult Night Walk, 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Glacier Knoll Picnic Area. Take in the sights and sounds of the night on a brisk and flat two-mile walk. • Backcountry Wandering, 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Glacier Knoll Picnic Area. Search for deer, migrating waterfowl and other signs of fall on a two-hour on- and off-trail walk. Sharon Woods Metro Park 6911 Cleveland Ave., Westerville • Off-Trail Ramble, 2 p.m. Saturday at the Apple Ridge bulletin board. Explore the park on a rugged 2.5-mile off-trail hike. • Boo to the Flu, 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Spring Hollow Lodge, 10-69 W. Main St., Westerville. Enjoy an afternoon of fall activities, including crafts, games, tram rides, snacks and a scavenger hunt. Banjo player Ray Pauken will lead a sing-along. Slate Run Living Historical Farm 1375 state Route 674 N., Canal Winchester • Pumpkins and Corn, 1-3 p.m. Saturday. Help harvest corn and see a variety of pumpkins and squash (weather permitting). Three Creeks Park 3860 Bixby Road, Groveport • Campfire Show and Tell, 7 p.m. Saturday at the program amphitheater. Share your favorite story and sing some silly animal songs. Bring food to grill. Hot chocolate provided. • Trees Without Leaves, 1 p.m. Sunday at the Confluence Trails bulletin board. Take a 1.5-mile hike and learn to identify trees by their bark, buds and branches.
