The opening reception for the Ohio Craft Museum's 10th annual "Gifts of the Craftsmen" holiday exhibition will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The exhibition will be open through Dec. 23 at the museum, 1665 W. Fifth Ave.

A variety of items, including handcrafted jewelry, pottery, art glass, baskets and clothing will be on display and available for purchase during the exhibition.

Proceeds of the sale will benefit the museum's exhibitions and educational programs.

"We tried to select a good mix of items," museum director Betty Talbott said. "We have something for everyone and for every budget, ranging from $4 stocking stuffers to fine art pieces costing hundreds of dollars."

Nearly 50 fine craft artists from around Ohio and across the United States are participating in this year's exhibition, Talbott said.

"Many of the artists have exhibited with us before, but we also have a number of new artists I think people will find interesting," she said.

"The nice thing about our exhibit is that when you buy something, you know it's truly a one-of-a-kind item," Talbott said.

Among the featured items and artists are Mark Brown's "bug" clocks made from recycled materials, sterling silver jewelry by Catherina Bishop, fine leather change purses and wallets by K. Bellum and ceramic mugs and platters by Mark Nafziger.

For the first time, the museum will offer glass spheres and vases created by Massachusetts-based artist Josh Simpson.

"We're really excited to have some of his pieces in our exhibit," Talbott said. "We've exhibited items by him before, but never for sale."

In conjunction with "Gifts of the Craftsmen," the craft museum will offer gift-making workshops for children ages 6-12 on Dec. 12 and 19.

Youngsters will make their own handcrafted gift complete with gift wrap they decorate themselves during the workshops.

"Parents can leave their children with us while they go out and finish some of their own shopping," Talbott said.

The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. The fee is $25 per child. Participants should bring a packed lunch.

Pre-registration is required and reservations can be made by calling the museum at 486-4402.

Admission to the Gifts of the Craftsmen exhibition is free.

The Ohio Craft Museum is owned and operated by Ohio Designer Craftsmen. During the holiday exhibition, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
