The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio has provided residents with several tips for recycling efforts during the holidays.

Cardboard boxes should be crushed or flattened before being dropped off at SWACO centers.

When purchasing gifts, look for products with recycled packaging and evaluate a product's durability. Consider purchasing items made of recycled content and use reusable shopping bags.

Wrapping paper may be recycled as long it is not made of plastic or foil.

Holiday greeting cards (no foil) and envelopes are recyclable. Catalog and advertising slicks may be recycled after the name and address have been removed.

SWACO does not accept polystyrene packing peanuts. Many shipping and packaging stores will accept them for reuse.

Old televisions, computers and other products may be recycled. SWACO's Web site, www.swaco.org, lists local e-waste businesses that will help ensure these items have a second life.

Holiday trees are considered yard waste and yard waste is banned from the local landfill. Residents should check with the city service department.
