Resident named BK scholar

Crystal Thorne, a senior at Canal Winchester High School, has been named a Burger King Scholar. Thorne will receive a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and community involvement. Scholarships are provided through the Have It Your Way Foundation. She is one of 40 winners in Ohio.

Veterans Day display to be unveiled

In celebration of Veterans Day, Canal Winchester will unveil a downtown photo display this week of more than 30 pictures of local veterans from the Korean War through current conflicts in the Middle East.

The photographs will hang for the entire month of November in the front window of the Municipal Building, 36 S. High St.

Canal Winchester Village Councilman Bruce Jarvis suggested the idea after remembering a display posted at Town Hall in Lithopolis.

"I think this is a great way to honor the veterans who have done so much for us," Jarvis said.

All photographs will be kept for displays in future years, therefore only copies (no originals) were turned in. All photos show veterans or active military personnel in uniform.
