Self-guided tours of the Jane Decker Arboretum on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus now are available. Used for biological study, the arboretum was begun in the 1860s, when a local pastor began planting native and foreign trees on the 200-acre campus. Free printed "Tree Trek" guides are available, as is a children's version. Contact David
Johnson, chairman of the OWU botany/microbiology department at dmjohnso@owu.edu or Nancy Murray at
namurray@owu.edu or call (740) 368-3505.
The arboretum in 1988 became the Jane Decker arboretum, named in memory of a botany professor who conveyed both her knowledge and her love of plants and trees during her 20-year teaching career. The arboretum now hosts 105 species of trees and woody plants from various parts of the world.
