Six seniors from Jerome announced their college decisions Nov. 11 during a ceremony at the school. (Front row from left) Jared Sims (lacrosse, Wheeling Jesuit), Hattie Lamping (diving, San Diego), Eric Ruhl (lacrosse, Johns Hopkins); (back row) Landon DelPrince (lacrosse, Wheeling Jesuit), Logan Jones (golf, Ohio State) and Jared King (baseball, Kansas State).
Dublin Jerome High School diver Hattie Lamping has rewritten the program's record book. Lamping has been rewarded for her success in the pool by signing a letter of intent to continue her education and diving career at San Diego State University. "This doesn't surprise me at all," Jerome diving coach Ryan Wilson said. "She has always been a very self-motivated diver and individual. She's very hard working, so her drive and motivation were big factors in her going the places that she is going in diving. Her diving skills are phenomenal." Lamping announced her college decision during a ceremony on Nov. 11 at the school. Lamping chose the Aztecs over Arkansas, Clemson and Minnesota, and said her final decision was between Minnesota and San Diego State. "After visiting many schools, San Diego State was the one that stood out the most," Lamping said. "The team and the coaching staff were fantastic. I instantly fell in love with the diving facility and the perfect weather." San Diego State competes in the Mountain West Conference. Lamping, a two-time state-meet qualifier, is hoping for similar success this winter. Last season, she finished eighth in the Division I diving finals (374.55 points) at state. As a sophomore, Lamping placed 12th (341.15). Lamping holds the program records for six (243.90), set Dec. 17, 2008; and 11 dives (446.65), set Jan. 31, 2009. "I'm going to miss the team and the morning practices," Lamping said. "I'm going to miss all the people here." Lamping also excels in the classroom, holding a 3.8 grade-point average. Lamping plans on pursuing a major in primary education in college. "We all wish Hattie the best of luck and look forward to seeing her dive at the next level," Wilson said. Lamping will join former teammate, Julianne McNamee, in competing at the Division I level. McNamee is a freshman swimmer at Duke.
