The following were reported in the Nov. 11, 1959, edition of The Johnstown Independent:

• Approximately 100 persons gathered at the Johnstown Elementary auditorium last Thursday night, Nov. 5, for the announcement of winners in the 100-bushel corn clubs. John Hilton was the winner of the Johnstown club for the second straight year. John's production record this year was 130.2 bushels per acre as compared to 117.6 bushels per acre last year. The winners from the Hartford club were Earl Sands with 136.64 bushels per acre and David Brake with 133.56 bushels per acre.

• Johnstown High School Band Boosters will host its annual Turkey Trot at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 27, at the high school.

Other local holiday events include a Turkey supper with trimmings on Thursday night, Nov. 12, at the Liberty Church. Serving begins at 5:30 p.m.

• A new sewage disposal plant and the new water plant were the main topics of discussion at the Johnstown Village Council meeting. The water plant will be built for an estimated population of 7,500 and besides utilizing present facilities, will include a new clear well, addition of new water mains, and another elevated tank. The total estimated expenditures for both the sewage and water facilities were $325,000.
