Two new members will join the Marysville Exempted Village School District Board of Education in
January.
Tracy Greer and Doug Lassiter, along with incumbent Jeff Mabee, were elected to four-year terms on the board in the Nov. 3 election. Greer earned the highest total vote count, with 2,984 ballots cast in her favor. Mabee was next at 2,586 and Lassiter third at 2,310. "We were proactive" in the campaign, Greer said. "I talked to a lot of people and heard a lot of their concerns. I think it's important we look at issues of transparency and also fiscal responsibility." "It says a lot of the change the community wants," Lassiter told ThisWeek, pointing to the election of two candidates from the Stronger Marysville political action committee. "I want to build a relationship with the current board members." "I'm looking forward" to a second term, Mabee, the current board president, said. "As a board member, you feel like you're starting to reach some momentum and are through the learning curve at this point. In a second term, you understand more and can really start working on the details." "I'm sure the new board members elected will work as hard as they can," he added. "There are definitely going to be some challenges looking forward." Incumbent Scott Johnson received 2,130 votes. He told ThisWeek he was proud of his service on the board. "It would have been good to continue," he said. "But I was heavily involved with the schools before, and I'll still be involved at the schools as a volunteer." The remaining candidates and their vote totals are: Nan Savidge, 2,069; Jeff Wirtz, 1,914; David Bates, 1,701; Don Voss, 1,075; and Monty Staats, 935. Story toolsToday’s Top Stories
