Bananas Foster and smoked beef brisket tacos are just two of the tantalizing dishes that will be served during the 2010 Taste of New Albany.

The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at Market Square in downtown New Albany. Tickets are $35 each or $300 for a table of 10. A performance by the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, sponsored by the New Albany Signature Series, begins at 6 p.m.

Because of the popularity of bananas Foster at the 2009 Taste of New Albany, Mike Davis, owner of the Sunny Street Caf on New Albany Road West, said he decided to serve it again.

"We couldn't make enough (bananas Foster) last year," Davis said.

Bananas Foster is made with French vanilla ice cream, a buttery caramel sauce, walnuts and whipped cream.

"It's one of our regular desserts and it was a huge hit last year," Davis said.

He said his restaurant also does a lot of catering in the area, so he may bring another item to please people's taste buds.

The New Albany Gardens and Care Center is bringing the smoked beef brisket tacos.

Chef Bill Hardin said the smoked beef brisket is featured once a month at the care center.

To make it more mobile for Taste of New Albany, he decided to serve it in tacos. Three types of salsa topping will be available: roasted tomato, mango and roasted tomatillo.

The care center also will provide chocolate raspberry truffles.

Hardin said the center does not always have truffles on the menu, but it does make most of its desserts from scratch. This dessert, he said, will show what the staff can provide for residents.

"I think it gives a good indication of what we can do," he said.

Other restaurants and organizations providing food at Taste of New Albany include: Chi Thai Restaurant, City Barbeque, Costco, Creekside Banquet and Conference Center, Mia Cucina, New Albany Country Club, New Albany Links, Roosters, Sam's Club, Rusty Bucket, Starbucks, Panera Bread, Smoothie King and Cherry Valley Lodge.

Several vendors will also be part of the event, including: Ohio Family and Sports Chiropractic, Windsong Massage and Therapies, Furniture Physicians Co., Moments to Remember and Wayside Flower Shoppe.

Davis said Taste of New Albany provides restaurants and other local businesses with an opportunity to share their culinary expertise and help the community.

"The number one priority is to draw exposure to the restaurant," he said. "Number two is to be involved with the community."

Hardin said the care center is a big part of the community.

"It's very important for us to do as many community-minded functions as we can," he said.

Taste of New Albany raises about $16,000 annually for the New Albany Chamber of Commerce, which is a nonprofit organization supported by membership dues.

Eileen Leuby, chamber of commerce president, said the money helps pay for monthly networking events and items for distribution, such as a community guide, a calendar that lists many events, maps and shopping guides and welcome packages for new residents.
