The Sharon Woods Civic Association has teamed up with the Beechcroft Lions club to turn the civic
association's annual Easter breakfast into a fundraiser for a local school.
The annual "Pancakes with the Easter Bunny" is scheduled for 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Methodist Church, 6176 Sharon Woods Blvd. The cost for the all-you-can-eat breakfast is $6 for adults and $3 for children. All of the proceeds from the breakfast will go toward the Ohio State School for the Blind's marching band to pay for its trip to the 2010 Rose Bowl. "It's a great opportunity to have some fun, eat some pancakes and make a nice donation to the School for the Blind," said Roger Heckel, secretary for the Beechcroft Lions club. An Easter egg hunt has long been a tradition for the Sharon Woods Civic Association, Heckel said, and the Beechcroft Lions joined up with the association last year to turn the event into a pancake breakfast. "What we're trying to do is attach ourselves to the community," he said. The association and the Lions decided to turn this year's breakfast into a fundraiser as part of an overall effort of Lions clubs across the state to donate $120,000 to the School for the Blind's trip to the Rose Bowl Parade, Heckel said. To increase the donation from Sharon Woods and the Beechcroft Lions, the groups have been working to publicize the event to attract more than the 75 people who attended last year's breakfast, Heckel said. The groups have been putting up fliers, advertising in church bulletins and posting notices about the event on the Internet. "We expect to double our size this year," he said. In addition to breakfast with the Easter Bunny, the event will include the annual Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m., face painting, corn hole, balloons and a coloring contest, Heckel said. The breakfast will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, milk, orange juice and coffee. Story toolsToday’s Top Stories
