One incumbent and one newcomer were elected in each of the township trustee races in Liberty and Orange townships during the Nov. 3 election.

Liberty Township voters cast out incumbent Peggy Guzzo, but re-elected Curt Sybert and elected challenger Mary Carducci.

In Orange Township, the winners were incumbent John Cassady and newcomer Robert Quigley.

Jim Agan, an Orange Township trustee for more than 10 years, was voted out of office.

The Delaware County Board of Elections unofficial count shows newcomer Mary Carducci winning the highest percent of votes, 22.73 percent. She received 2,592 of the total 11,402 votes cast.

Curt Sybert received 2,426 votes, 21.28 percent of the total votes.

Guzzo, whose seat expires Dec. 31, came in third place, with Powell councilman Don Grubbs in a close fourth place. Guzzo received 2,110 votes, 18.51 percent of the total votes. Grubbs received 2,017 votes,17.69 percent of the total votes.

Challenger John Schuette received 1,497 votes, 13.13 percent.

Candidate Don Rankey, Jr. received 760 votes, 6.67 percent.

In Orange Township, Cassady received 3,048 votes, or 35.5 percent, and Quigley had 2,781, 32.4 percent.

Val Scheibeck followed with 1,573 votes, 18.3 percent, while Agan had 1,176 votes, 13.7 percent.

"I am honored and humbled by the support of Liberty Township and city of Powell taxpayers," Carducci said in an e-mail. "I will serve you with honor and integrity and will guard your tax dollars!"

Sybert said, "We worked awful hard and I'm humbled to serve again. It was a tough race. I want to congratulate all the other candidates - they did a great job. We have a lot of work to do. We've done a lot of work, and these next four years are going to be very tough."

Cassady said, "I am grateful to the citizens of Orange Township for placing their trust in me for a second term as Trustee."

Quigley said, "Running for Orange Township Trustee has been a great experience. I have met with so many wonderful people walking door to door throughout the township. This has given me a good understanding of what is expected of the township and of a trustee. I have enjoyed speaking with everyone and I hope I have the opportunity to meet many more residents in the coming years. I truly believe this is a great community with a lot of potential and I look forward to working with the residents to make this the best community in Ohio. I want to thank everyone who has supported me and I am ready to work for the residents of Orange Township."

Agan has been a trustee since 1998 and he earlier served four years on the board of zoning appeals.

Agan thanked those who voted for him. "I did my service and I did it well. I'm proud to have served," he said. "I admit I did not spend a lot of money on the campaign. I spent $125. I wish the people of Orange Township good luck."

The trustees will begin their terms in January.
