Sunbury officials are still seeking payment for a damaged sewer line.
Miller Pipeline replaced gas lines in the village in August, while working for Columbia Gas. The problem occurred on South Columbus Street when a section of sewer line was damaged, making the line virtually inoperable for about 100 feet, council president Tom Hatfield has said. FeeCorp -- an environmental and industrial cleaning service based in Canal Winchester -- charged the village $49,981 to repair the sewer line, village administrator Dave Martin has said. The village was given 10 days by FeeCorp to pay the bill. During that time, village officials attempted to get the money from Columbia Gas. Columbia Gas did not pay the village within the 10 days, village officials said. The village paid FeeCorp and continued its attempts to get the money from Columbia, Martin said. Officials from Columbia have sent the matter to Miller Pipeline, village attorney David Brehm said. Miller has filed the claim with its insurance company, Liberty Mutual. No payments have been made. "Because of the delay, we went ahead and turned it in to our insurance company, Huntington Insurance," he said. The village is seeking reimbursement from Huntington, minus the $1,000 deductible, he said. Martin said he received in the past week a call from a claims investigator at Midwest Claims, the company that processes claims for Huntington Insurance. Martin said he was told the sewer line was too far away from any village-owned building to be covered. No specific distances were given during the conversation, Martin said, who protested the decision, claiming that village infrastructure should be included in the coverage. "We're waiting to hear back from Huntington regarding our claim," he said. A call made to Huntington Insurance was not returned by press time. Story toolsToday’s Top Stories
