There were no surprises on Nov. 24 when the Delaware County Board of Elections certified official results of the Nov. 3 election. The board of elections needed three weeks after the election to research the authenticity of provisional ballots. Provisional ballots were not counted until certain information, such as a change of address, was verified. Another delay came from waiting for all overseas absentee ballots to come in, which were still accepted up to 10 days after election day, according to the board of elections. Among the official results: The Big Walnut school district's emergency 6.7-mill levy officially failed by 41 votes. There were 3,765 votes against the levy and 3,724 for it. District officials previously held onto a small glimmer of hope from 172 uncounted provisional and absentee ballots. But superintendent Steve Mazzi earlier said he felt it was a lost cause. The school board recently rejected the idea of putting another levy on the ballot for a special election in February. Officials are still considering returning to the voters next year to try again. The district's school board race was also cemented. Incumbent Verna Hines and challengers Allison Fagan and Pam Lillie won the three available seats on the board. Hines officially earned 2,331 votes, Fagan won 2,738 votes and Lillie won 3,005 votes. Defeated were incumbent Ron Hobelman and challengers Robert Kuederle and Steven Krupp. Hobelman earned 2,200 votes, Kuederle earned 1,837 votes and Krupp earned 2,013 votes. Community Library's 1-mill, five-year levy passed with a vote of 3,967 in favor versus 3,500 against. In the Genoa Township trustee race, two open seats went to challengers Rick Carfagna and Karl Gebhardt, earning 4,833 votes and 2,801 votes respectively. The two defeated incumbent Gerry Cotter, who had 2,539 votes and challenger Larry King, who earned 1,299 votes. Story toolsToday’s Top Stories
