Acoustic musician Derek Mortland will share his experiences as a musician and as a person with a disability at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, on the Otterbein College campus.
Mortland will perform and speak in the Battelle Fine Arts Center's Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St., Westerville. Mortland became physically disabled after a crash at the St. Louis Speedway left him with a head injury and partial paralysis. The Otterbein College Department of Music will present a performance by the Otterbein Winds at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Church of the Master United Methodist, 24 N. Grove St. The concert, "The Quintet Goes to the Opera," is free and open to the public. The Otterbein Winds is a faculty woodwind quintet featuring Kimberlee Goodman, flute; Melissa Stevens, oboe; Robert Jones, clarinet; Cynthia Cioffari, bassoon; and Kimberly McCann, horn. The group will perform overtures to "The Magic Flute," "Italian in Algiers," "Rusalka," "Porgy and Bess" and "Carmen," as well as selections from Puccini operas.
