Jordan offered Grove City football job Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008
By DON DELCO Grove City High School has offered its head coach position to Painesville Riverside coach Matt Jordan. "Matthew Jordan's name will appear on the March 10 school board meeting's agenda," said Sandy Nekoloff, the executive director of communications for the South-Western City Schools. "Of course, there is nothing concrete until board approval." Jordan spent the last three seasons as Riverside's head coach going 19-13 and guiding the Beavers to Division I playoff appearances in 2006 and 2007. In what turned out to be Jordan's final season with Riverside, the Beavers finished 7-3 in the regular season and first in the Premier Athletic Conference before losing to eventual state runner-up Mentor 38-14 in the first round of the playoffs. Grove City finished 2-8 last season under Scott McIntire, who was notified Dec. 19 his football contract would not be renewed. McIntire joined the Grove City coaching staff in 1986 and became head coach in 2003 and went 25-28. During his five-year tenure, the Dawgs reached the playoffs in 2003 losing in the first round to Lancaster 56-28 and in 2005 winning a first-round home game over Brookhaven 24-10 before losing to Hilliard Davidson 24-7. |
