After nearly a month of investigation, Worthington Division of Police detectives have closed the case of a March 9 suspicious-package scare at Congregation Beth Tikvah.

According to Sgt. James Moran, detectives on the case “confirmed the object was a school project that was accidentally left at the facility by a young child” and closed the case Friday, April 7.

Units from multiple central Ohio jurisdictions responded to Beth Tikvah the morning of March 9 when a woman reported a suspicious package.

After more than two hours, police and fire personnel determined the item likely was an oddly shaped “art project” by a child at the congregation’s day care.

But hours later, Worthington investigators changed course and began working to determine whether the “art” was an intentional hoax.

Security camera footage and other evidence was assessed, and the case was considered an open investigation until April 7.

The police division has not released a photo of the item.
