A Pleasant View Middle School teacher has resigned after he was arrested last week and charged with two counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.

Michael J. Walsh, 60, of Grove City was arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office April 5.

The South-Western Board of Education accepted Walsh's resignation at its April 10 meeting. It will be effective April 30.

Walsh became a subject of interest during a routine sweep of the internet conducted by the sheriff's office's special investigations unit, said Marc Gofstein, public information officer with the sheriff's office.

"Once they had enough evidence to get a search warrant, it was executed and a large amount of pornographic images was retrieved from his computer," Gofstein said.

Gofstein said an investigation is continuing to "make sure we can proceed with an indictment."

Walsh, who has taught classes in the career tech exploration program at Pleasant View, was placed on paid administrative leave after the district learned about his arrest on April 5, said Sandy Nekoloff, the district's executive director of communications.

"What investigators have told us is that none of the actions he has been charged with occurred on school grounds or involved any of our students," Nekoloff said.

Walsh was arraigned April 6 in Franklin County Municipal Court. A judge ordered him held on $100,000 bond and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 14. Court records show one of the charges involve advertising, selling or distributing material and the other soliciting, receiving or purchasing material. Both counts are felony charges.

ThisWeek was unable to reach Walsh or his representative for comment.
