Arbor Day Festival slated April 29
The Dawes Arboretum will hold an Arbor Day Festival featuring family-focused learning opportunities, including tree climbing, activities and displays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at 7770 Jacksontown Road SE, Newark.
Children will participate in supervised tree climbing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., which is the only time during the year that visitors are allowed to climb on trees. Attendees also will be able to see presentations featuring animals from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium at noon and 1 p.m. Throughout the day, guided walking tours of selected areas will be offered.
During the festival, the arboretum will hold a plant sale. Shoppers will be able to purchase a variety of nursery plants. The first 300 families in attendance will receive a free tree to take home and plant in honor of Arbor Day.

Hours expanded for spring, summer
Starting April 14, the Dawes Arboretum began operating under new seasonal hours.
The arboretum will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Aug. 31; 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1-Oct. 31; 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1-Feb. 28; and 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. March 1-31.
The arboretum also will add closing signs at its parking areas and will share closing times on its website and social-media channels.
Arboretum recognized with GreenSpotLight award
The Dawes Arboretum recently was recognized with the GreenSpotLight award by the city of Columbus as part of the GreenSpot celebration.
The GreenSpotLight award is given to organizations committed to facilitating a sustainable living and work environment.
