To the Editor:
On a beautiful spring-day drive to the country, I was sickened to see the total devastation of big hardwood trees and 100-year-old spruce trees along the perimeter of the new Coughlin Crossing site on U.S. Route 23 in Delaware.
I understand city leaders were thrilled at the plans for development. No one should be thrilled at the horrible destruction of these mature trees. Certainly many of these valuable trees could have been saved by responsible developers, but I suppose profit was more important than sensitive ecological development.
Shame on the city leaders for allowing this thoughtless destruction, and shame on the residents and neighbors for not demanding that this horror be stopped.
