The Pickerington Community Chorus will celebrate its 10th year as Pickerington's all-volunteer, nonprofit community chorus with a special surprise for area residents.

"Since this is our 10th year, we wanted to do something really special, so we decided to commission a musical piece to be debuted by our chorus," said July Rice, the chorus' secretary.

The piece, titled "We Are the Song," was composed by 2006 Pickerington High School Central graduate Andrew Robinson.

The Pickerington Community Chorus will hold a special anniversary performance called "Say It With A Song: Celebrating 10 Years" at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in Peace United Methodist Church, 235 Diley Road, Pickerington. Special guests for the concert will include the PHS Central Chorale.

"The chorale and chorus will perform several pieces on their own and then will join to perform several joint pieces including our commissioned piece," Rice said.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children/seniors in advance and $12 for adults and $10 children/seniors at the door.

"We're excited that we're now able to do online ticket sales," Rice said.

"Customers just need to go to our homepage and they can purchase their tickets in advance for a reduced fee."

The Pickerington Community Chorus was formed in 2007 by the Pickerington Parks and Recreation Department. In 2008 the PCC became an independent entity.

"In 2012 we received our (non-profit corporation) status and we've been going strong ever since," Rice said.

She said it's unfortunate members of the community are unaware the city has such a talented chorus.

"The chorus has performed for the Fourth of July and Labor Day festivities, the Violet Festival, Pickerington Summer Concert Series, Pickerington tree-lighting ceremony, the community Thanksgiving service, Arbor Day and the PCMA Food Pantry Food Truck Frenzy," Rice said.

In addition, the PCC conducts its annual winter and spring concerts and performs twice a year at local senior living facilities, she said.
