Schmidt’s Sausage Haus und Restaurant has delivered on a promise to donate money to help rebuild St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in German Village.
But it was a fatter check than originally anticipated.
Geoff Schmidt, one of the owners of the restaurant at 240 E. Kossuth St., cut a check May 12 for $12,995.75 to the church, which has been closed since September after a lightning strike.
Schmidt’s original projection was to raise $10,000 for the church — $1 of every cream puff sold April 1-15 — but the restaurant extended the campaign through the end of April.
According to totals supplied by Schmidt’s, 10,687 cream puffs were sold at the restaurant and 2,163 at its two food trucks. Schmidt’s took in another $145.75 in cash donations for St. Mary, 684 S. Third St.
