The Pickerington Board of Education has announced it intends to hire Chris Briggs as the district’s next superintendent.

The district announced via press release and on its website Thursday morning, May 25, that Briggs, superintendent of the Northridge Local School District in Licking County – is expected to be hired after action is taken at a special school board meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 30.

Briggs had been identified as a finalist for the post, along with Scott Nelson, superintendent of the Sylvania City School District in northwest Ohio, and Isaac Seevers, superintendent of the Greeneview Local School District in Jamestown.

Briggs will replace Valerie Browning-Thompson, who in April announced she would retire at the end of this school year.

Browning-Thompson has been the district’s superintendent since August 2014. In 2016-17, she received a base salary of $157,000. With benefits, her total contract is valued at $188,567.19.

Information about Briggs’ contract is not yet available and likely won’t be until after the board takes action May 30.
