The Rocky Fork Headley Hunt, the first of five hunter paces for 2017, will be held at 9 a.m. June 24 at Spring Hill Farm, 4235 Morse Road SE, Alexandria.

The hunter pace is a lightly competitive ride on a cross-country course at a selected pace. Courses range from 4 to 6 miles and often include woodland trails, fields, creek crossings, hills, rocky or muddy ground and a variety of jumps.

Clothing appropriate to riding style is recommended, and approved hard hats are required for all riders. Entries will be accepted the day of the hunter pace, and all riders must register, including signing a liability waiver prior to mounting their horse. Minors must have a liability waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Pace divisions include first flight, 10 miles per hour, from 9 to 9:30 a.m.; second flight, 7 mph, from 9:30 to noon; and scenic-cruisers pace, 4 mph, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Entry fees are $40 for registered hunt-club members, $50 for nonmembers and $20 for ages 22 and younger.

Award ribbons will be given to first- through eighth-place finishers. Dogs are not allowed.
